HUGEL & FILS

Domaine Hugel et Fils sets the pace for the history of Alsace wines. It haswitnessed and contributed to the evolution of this wine region. Sons and grandsons participate in the family adventure. Since the 17th century, the Hugel family has combined modernity and tradition to run its estate. They have the world's oldest active barrel in their Sainte-Catherine cellar.

Domaine Hugel et Fils is committed to promoting Alsace terroirs throughout the world. To achieve this goal, it is following a two-pronged approach : the development of a popular wine, Gentil, and the promotion of 2 Alsace Grand Cru appellation wines.

Location of Domaine Hugel et Fils

The Hugel family estate owns 29.5 hectares of vines. These are planted on a mosaic of different terroirs around the native village of Riquewihr. Knowing the specificity of each one allows the Hugel sons to reveal each grape variety. With the help of Claude Bourguignon, France's leading expert on agricultural soils, Marc Hugel has learned to recognize each pebble on his estate.

It's this finely-tuned appreciation that has led the family estate to emphasize late harvesting and the selection of noble grapes in certain parcels.

Domaine Hugel et Fils wines

Domaine Hugel et Fils offers 6 ranges of wines for tasting: Estate, Classic, Gentil, Grossi Laüe, Vendange Tardive and Sélection de Grains Nobles. 28 hectares of vines are devoted to Alsace white wine. 1.5 hectares are devoted to red wine.

Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Sylvaner and Muscat are the different grape varieties used for white wines. The Hugel family's Classic red comes from Pinot Noir. Domaine Hugel et Fils wines express the diversity of their terroirs and grape varieties.
