Originally from Chablis, Joseph Drouhin founded his wine company in Beaune in 1880. His son Maurice succeeded him and acquired Clos des Mouches and Clos de Vougeot. And so the story begins. Through curiosity and passion, father and son developed the company with the aim of producing quality wines. Land acquisitions multiplied, notably in Chablis by Robert Drouhin in 1957. The enterprising Robert Drouhin took the first steps towards sustainable viticulture. Backed by Laurence Jobard, Burgundy's first female oenologist, they created the company's oenological laboratory. Joseph's great-grandchildren Philippe, Véronique, Laurent and Frédéric work together to perpetuate the values of the House and the philosophy of their father and great-grandfather. A true family estate, 4 generations have succeeded one another through sharing and a common passion. Today, the fifth generation is represented by Laurène Drouhin, Véronique's daughter, who joined the House in 2020.

The Domaine owns the Moulin de Vaudon, a former water mill located near the Grands Crus of Chablis. Since 2008, the name Vaudon has been associated with Joseph Drouhin, a fine mark of recognition for the founder who was very attached to the Chablis terroir. The vines are cultivated organically and biodynamically. Brothers and sister attach great importance to viticulture: working the vines and their soils. They favor horse-drawn ploughing and grass cover. The aim is to provide natural solutions to natural problems, a concept that children naturally embrace. The grapes are harvested by hand. The grapes are picked and placed in small, perforated crates. A beneficial choice for the preservation of the fruit.

Geographical location of the estate

Today, the Domaine comprises 80 hectares spread over 90 appellations. Mainly located in Chablis, Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, the Côte Chalonnaise represents only a small part of the estate's surface area.

Domaine wines

The Domaine grows Chardonnay and Pinot Noir on terroirs in the Premiers and Grands Crus. These terroirs include some of Burgundy's best-known parcels: Clos des Mouches, Musigny, Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche, Clos de Vougeot, Corton Charlemagne.

Joseph Drouhin wines are renowned for delivering incredible freshness when young, and as time goes by, the wines gain in complexity. Balance and harmony perfectly reflect the Domaine's style.
