Originally from Chablis, Joseph Drouhin founded his wine company in Beaune in 1880. His son Maurice succeeded him and acquired Clos des Mouches and Clos de Vougeot. This is how the story begins. Through curiosity and passion, father and son developed the House under the wish to produce quality wines. Robert Drouhin acquired more and more land, notably in Chablis in 1957. The latter was very enterprising and took the first steps towards sustainable viticulture. Together with Laurence Jobard, the first woman oenologist in Burgundy, they created the oenological laboratory of the company. Joseph's great-grandchildren; Philippe, Véronique, Laurent and Frédéric work together to perpetuate the values of the House and the philosophy of their father and great-grandfather. A true family estate, four generations have succeeded one another through sharing and a common passion. Today the fifth generation is represented by Laurène Drouhin, Véronique's daughter who joined the House in 2020.

The Domaine owns an old water mill, close to the Grands Crus of Chablis: the Moulin de Vaudon. Since 2008, the name Vaudon is associated with Joseph Drouhin, a nice recognition for the founder who was very attached to the Chablis terroir. The vines are worked in an organic but also biodynamic way. Brothers and sister attach great importance to viticulture; working the vine and its soils. They favor the plowing of the soil by horseback and the use of grass. The objective is to bring natural answers to natural problems; a concept naturally cited by the children. The harvest is done manually. The grapes are picked and placed in small perforated boxes. A beneficial choice for the preservation of the fruit.

Geographical location of the domain

Today, the Domaine consists of 80 hectares divided into 90 appellations. Mostly located in Chablis, in Côte de Nuits and in Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise represents only a small part of the exploited surface.

The wines of the domain

The Domaine raises Chardonnay and Pinot Noir spread over terroirs in Premiers and Grands Crus. Among these terroirs are the most recognized parcels in Burgundy: Clos des Mouches, Musigny, Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche, Clos de Vougeot, Corton Charlemagne.

The wines of Joseph Drouhin are known to deliver an incredible freshness when young, then as time goes by, the wines gain in complexity. A balance and harmony that perfectly reflects the style of the Domaine.
