The Clos du Marquis produces great Bordeaux wines in the Saint-Julien appellation in the Médoc. The first vintage dates from 1902. The Clos du Marquis is adjacent to the Château Léoville Las Cases, property of the Marquis de Las Cases in 1840. For several years, Jean-Hubert Delon and his sister Geneviève d'Alton have managed the property with passion. The vines benefit from a reasoned viticulture. The harvest is done by hand when the grapes are ripe.

Geographical location of Clos du Marquis

The Clos du Marquis is located in Saint-Julien-Beychevelle near the Gironde. This wine property is located on the left bank, near the Château Léoville Las Cases. The 45 hectare vineyard benefits from a temperate oceanic climate, ideal for viticulture. Part of the vineyard is planted on a plateau with a soil composed of humic podzols, on sandy-clay gravel. Frosts are quite rare in this part of the Gironde. The harvest can be done as late as possible.

The wines of Clos du Marquis

The Clos du Marquis produces two red wines of Saint-Julien appellation. The first Clos du Marquis dates from 1902. Its origin comes from its location in a "Petit Clos" near the Château of Léoville, the property of the Marquis de Las Cases. The Clos du Marquis is composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. It can be kept for many years in the cellar. The second wine of Clos du Marquis is called La Petite Marquise. This red wine is made from young vines. La Petite Marquise pays tribute to the women who have contributed to the history of Clos du Marquis through the centuries.
