Domaine Podere Il Carnasciale created its first vintage in 1988, under the impetus of Wolf Rogosky. Today, Bettina Rogosky and her son Moritz run the estate. The estate is located in Italy, in the Chianti region of Tuscany. The growers are the only ones in the world to cultivate the Caberlot grape variety. They produce exclusively IGT Toscana red wines.
Location of Podere Il Carnasciale estate
On the hills of Valdarno in the Chianti region, a few kilometers from Arezzo, the Rogosky family has built its estate, which covers 4.5 hectares. The first vines were planted in 1986. They were planted at an altitude of 450 meters on southeast-facing land. The soil consists of sandstone, clay and limestone. In the early 2000s, new vines were planted on new sandy-clay soils. The estate's last parcels were acquired in the early 2010s.
Caberlot is grown on the majority of plots. It is a natural cross between Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The Rogosky family also cultivates Sangiovese grapes, which are widespread in Chianti. No chemical intervention is applied to the vines or the soil. All treatments are natural and manual. Harvesting is done by hand. Oenological work is kept to a minimum to allow the intensity of the fruit to express itself in each vintage.
Podere Il Carnasciale Estate wines
Domaine Podere Il Carnasciale grows Caberlot grapes for the famous Il Caberlot red wine. This hand-bottled wine is sold mainly in magnums. Each magnum is hand-numbered by Bettina Rogosky. The estate also produces another red wine, Ottantadue, made from Sangiovese.
