Jonata is an avant-garde estate offering innovative California wines. Guided by winemaker Matt Dees, the Jonata team uses unconventional methods to grow vines and vinify cuvées. Particularly attached to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Syrah, Matt experiments with blends. He makes red and white wines to match his creativity. His original work has paid off, with top wine critics repeatedly acclaiming Jonata wines.
Location of Domaine Jonata
Jonata is located in the Santa Ynez Valley, California, in the western United States. The vineyard is located in the Ballard Canyon appellation. The soil is very sandy and not very fertile, making cultivation complicated. However, in the expert hands of the team, the characteristics of the terroir offer the possibility of controlling the care of the vines from A to Z. What's more, the sand adds tannin and texture to the wine. Jonata has taken the gamble of growing a large number of grape varieties side by side (varieties from Bordeaux, Burgundy and Italy). This unusual and daring practice has produced excellent results. Today, the estate's vineyards are among the most renowned in this part of California.
Domaine Jonata wines
Domaine Jonata wines are unique, to say the least. It produces two single-varietal wines: Fuerza (Petit Verdot) and Tierra (Sangiovese). All other cuvées are blends. A different blend is made for each vintage. Red wines include La Sangre de Jonata. Fenix also stands out, inspired by the style of Bordeaux wines. There are also bottles of El Desafio de Jonata, El Alma de Jonata and Todos. The winemaker of the California estate also creates white wines from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon: Flor and La Miel.
