Now run by Jean-Luc Vitoux, La Commaraine was taken over in 2018. Mark Nunnelly and Denise Dupre, an American couple with a passion for wine and vines, now run the estate. The estate remains the property of the Jaboulet-Vercherre family, who acquired it in 1920.
Location of Domaine La Commaraine
Domaine La Commaraine extends over 3.75 hectares in Burgundy, more precisely in Pommard, Côte de Beaune, in a renowned climate. The parcel is wholly owned, enabling the Monopole label to be affixed to every bottle of AOC red wine produced from this vineyard. The vineyard's clay-limestone soils are red in color thanks to iron oxides.
The estate is cultivated with respect for the terroirs, with the aim of understanding the depth, nature and composition of the soil using electromagnetic resonance. The plot of land has been divided into eight sections, according to the mapping carried out, in order to best adapt the plant material to the soil. The estate has evolved from ultra-reasonable agriculture to organic and biodynamic vine-growing.
Domaine La Commaraine wines
Domaine de La Commaraine's production can be summed up in one word: Monopole. The vineyard produces a single AOC and AOP Burgundy red wine made from Pinot Noir grapes. Recognized as one of the finest Pommard Premier Cru red wines, it is Pommard Premier Cru Clos La Commaraine Monopole. This is a deep, complex, structured wine with fine tannins. A wine for laying down, it can be kept for ten years or more.
