Geographical location of Clos de Tart
Domaine du Clos de Tart is located in Morey-Saint-Denis, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. With a surface area of 7.53 hectares, the Clos de Tart appellation is the largest monopole classified as a Grand Cru among Burgundy wines. Although constituting a single unit, the estate's vineyards are subdivided into parcels. These are defined according to soil type and vine age. Unlike neighboring estates, the vines are planted along a north-south axis. The vineyards are planted exclusively with Pinot Noir grapes.
Clos de Tart wines
The estate's vines are grown organically. Vinification takes place in wooden vats, after partial destemming. Each plot is vinified separately, to ensure the best possible quality. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for 18 months.
Clos de Tart Grand Cru is a red wine for long ageing. However, recent vintages tend to produce a wine that can be drunk younger. Alongside this Grand Cru, the domaine produces two other red wines. A Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru La Forge de Tart and a Morey-Saint-Denis Village. As these wines are made from declassified cuvées, the number of bottles varies greatly from one vintage to the next.
