PONSOT

In 1872, in Burgundy, William Ponsot bought his first hectares of vines in Morey-Saint-Denis. Here, he developed appellations such as Charmes-Chambertin and Gevrey-Chambertin Les Combottes. Thanks to the Clos des Monts-Luisants and Clos de la Roche parcels, Domaine Ponsot expanded over time. In 1936, thanks to Hippolyte Ponsot, the classification of Burgundy vines as AOC was finalized. Laurent Ponsot left the domaine in 2017, and today Rose-Marie Ponsot is the manager, representing the fourth generation of these wine and terroir lovers.

The geographical location of Domaine Ponsot

Domaine Ponsot's vineyards stretch from the Côte de Nuits to the Côte de Beaune. Their terroir covers the villages of Morey-Saint-Denis, Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny. Cultivated using organic and biodynamic methods, Domaine Ponsot's philosophy is to respect nature. It is thus developing an approach that respects the environment and the reasoned cultivation of vines. Domaine Ponsot wines are highly appreciated abroad, particularly in the United States.

Domaine Ponsot wines

Domaine Ponsot produces mainly red wines from Pinot Noir grapes. It also produces a more discreet white wine, made from Chardonnay and Aligoté grapes, of which their famous Morey-Saint-Denis Clos des Monts Luisants is immensely composed. Its flagship wines are Grands Crus and a few Premiers Crus, with the occasional Village appellation. Its most famous Grands Crus are Corton cuvée du Bourdon and Charmes-Chambertin cuvée des Merles. There are also fabulous Griotte-Chambertin, Chapelle-Chambertin and Clos de Vougeot cuvées Vieilles Vignes. Its outstanding Grand Cru, however, is Clos de la Roche in cuvée Vieilles Vignes.

The estate's only white Grand Cru is Corton-Charlemagne. Its most prestigious Premiers Crus are Morey-Saint-Denis Clos des Monts-Luisants Très Vieilles Vignes white and Morey-Saint-Denis cuvée des Alouettes red. The Village de Saint-Romain appellation, cuvée de la Mésange, stands out for its pale gold color. This white wine develops a nose of white flowers and a mineral mouthfeel.
