MOREAU ALEX

Domaine Alex Moreau is the result of the division of Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils in 2020. Alex Moreau takes over 5.7 hectares of the family vineyard, created in 1809. Trained on the estate and abroad with his brother Benoît, he and his wife are now continuing the work of five generations of winemakers in Chassagne-Montrachet. His aim: to produce clean, precise wines that express minerality and purity.

To achieve this excellence, Alex Moreau devotes all his energy to revealing the expression and potential of each terroir, just like the great wines of Burgundy. The estate uses integrated farming methods : organic fertilizers are used to preserve the soil and its complexity.

Geographical location of Domaine Alex Moreau

The Alex Moreau vineyard covers prestigious terroirs in Chassagne-Montrachet (Champs Gains, Morgeot). Marcel Moreau, Alex's grandfather, gradually acquired these parcels in the 1930s. Today, they are planted with old vines averaging 40 years of age.

The domaine also owns equally prestigious plots in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Charrières, Les Houillères). The soils are chalky and rocky. They contribute to the minerality of the white wines. Finally, Domaine Alex Moreau also produces red Burgundy from Pinot Noir plots in Chassagne-Montrachet (0.7 hectares).

Domaine Alex Moreau wines

Alex Moreau takes a hands-off approach to winemaking. And for ageing, he chooses wooden barrels, while preserving his wines from an overly woody character. Only the estate's Grands Crus are aged in barrels that are renewed with each vintage.

In white Burgundy, Alex Moreau produces the famous Grands Crus Bâtard-Montrachet and Les Criots-Batard-Montrachet. Then there are the Premiers Crus Chassagne-Montrachet La Maltroie and Les Grandes Ruchottes. Finally, Domaine Alex Moreau offers the red wines Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles-Vignes and Bourgogne Pinot-Noir.
