Dog Point Vineyard is a wine pioneer in Marlborough, New Zealand. It is also the largest organic winery in the region. Ivan and Margaret Sutherland began planting their vineyard in the late 1970s. While working at Cloudy Bay Estate, Ivan met James Healy. The two men shared the same approach to wine and decided to join forces to create Dog Point. Since then, the two families have operated the estate planted by the Sutherlands. In 2009, Dog Point began its conversion to organic farming. Today, the wine of the estate (Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir) is certified organic by the New Zealand organization Biogro NZ.

Geographical location of the Dog Point Estate

Dog Point Vineyard is located in the Marlborough wine region. With its sunny and dry climate, this terroir of New Zealand is favourable to the culture of the vines. The silty and clayey soil allows the development of fruit rich in aromas. The Dog Point vineyard includes Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. James, Ivan and his team harvest the grapes by hand to preserve their quality.

The wines of the Dog Point Estate

At Domaine Dog Point, we create a quality wine that can be kept without losing its aromatic notes. The estate offers white wine and Pinot Noir. The great classic of Dog Point remains the Sauvignon Blanc: a dry wine, with fresh notes of lemon, with a slight acidity. Section 94 is another more complex Sauvignon Blanc, aged in French oak for 18 months. It has minerality and vegetal notes on the palate. The final white wine, the Chardonnay, offers aromas of lemon and toast. This New Zealand Chardonnay reveals itself with age. Finally, the Pinot Noir is the only red wine produced at the estate. In the mouth, it gives notes of fruit and flowers that accompany its suppleness.
