MUZARD LUCIEN

Today,Claude and Hervé Muzard manage the domaine founded in the 1960s by their father Lucien, in the commune of Santenay in Burgundy. After studying at the Lycée Viticole in Beaune, they have been working on the family estate since the late 1980s, constantly striving to improve quality. Lucien Muzard's two sons, who will be joined in 2019 by Claude's daughter Capucine, are committed to maintaining the family tradition and helping the eponymous domaine evolve and grow.

Location of Domaine Lucien Muzard

Domaine Lucien Muzard covers 18 hectares, mostly in the family stronghold of Santenay, for the production of Pinot Noir-based red wines. With the desire to diversify production, other climats have joined the domaine. Parcels of vines are located in Pommard, Meursault, Maranges and Chassagne-Montrachet. Today, red wines account for 80% of production. They include a significant proportion of whole grapes, but this varies from cuvée to cuvée.

Domaine Lucien Muzard wines

Domaine Lucien Muzard prides itself on offering varied and original cuvées. Santenay Champs Claude and Santenay Premier Cru La Maladière belong to the"cuvées plaisir" category. These white wines are round on the palate, with a hint of freshness. In red wine, the "cuvées plaisir" include Santenay Vieilles Vignes and Maranges, wines that can be kept for two to five years.

The Muzard family also offers more confidential but promising wines in the microcuvée category. Red wines include Santenay Premier Cru and Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes. For whites, you can choose a bottle of Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru.

Finally, Lucien Muzard's children produce cuvées for laying down. The white Meursault Les Meix Chavaux is one of them. The same is true of red wines, such as Santenay Premier Cru Clos Faubard, with its fine texture, or Santenay Premier Cru Les Gravières, a powerful, full-bodied wine.
