The Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a very old wine property in the Bordeaux region. In 1795, the Ducru family bought this château. Bertrand Ducru decides to re-found the wines of Château Ducru with Paul Abadie. Afterwards, the property is owned by several people like Nathaniel Johnston, or the Desbarats family. In 1941, the Borie family became the owners of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou. It then shaped the reputation of this red wine of Bordeaux. The Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a second Grand Cru since 1855. Today, it is Bruno-Eugène Borie who manages the vintages of Ducru-Beaucaillou.

Geographical location of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

The Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is located in Saint-Julien-Beychevelle, in Gironde. This commune is in the Médoc. The name Ducru-Beaucaillou comes from a beautiful white stone present on the vineyard. The latter plays a primordial role in the quality of this red wine. The property of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is close to theGironde estuary. The soil, on its eastern side, is a set of quaternary gravel. With few frosts, the harvest is late and the grapes are very ripe.

The wines of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

The Château Ducru-Beaucaillou produces three wines in the Saint-Julien appellation. We find there the Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, the Croix de Beaucaillou and the Petit Ducru. In a bottle of Ducru-Beaucaillou, there are two grape varieties that give it its terroir aromas and ruby color. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot give this red wine its fruity notes and richness. The percentage of grape varieties changes according to the harvest. It is this perfect blend that brings to the different vintages of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou all their finesse, their delicate tannins, as well as their floral and fruity notes. This Saint-Julien Rouge can be kept for many years in the cellar before tasting.
