Since 2003, Pierre de Benoist has been managing Domaine A. et P. de Villaine, his aunt and uncle Aubert and Pamela de Villaine having decided to devote themselves entirely to the famous Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Vine-growing on the estate dates back to the Middle Ages. The monks of Cluny Abbey were already producing wine here from a famous grape variety: Aligoté. Located in Bouzeron, Burgundy, north of the Côte Chalonnaise, Domaine A. et P. de Villaine has been revitalizing this ancient grape variety since the 1970s. It also produces Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, all organically grown.

Geographical location of Domaine A. et P. de Villaine

The vineyards of Domaine A. et P. de Villaine are mainly located in Bouzeron, south of Beaune. In recent years, the estate has acquired parcels in Saint-Aubin, Rully, Mercurey and Santenay. Pierre de Benoist continues to produce high-quality wines in the family tradition, according to the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture. Natural vinification and hand-picking are the order of the day.

The vines of Domaine A. et P. de Villaine are grown exclusively on hillsides, at altitudes fluctuating between 270 and 350 meters. The highly calcareous soils and warm microclimate favor ripening and yield control. The domaine uses three grape varieties: Aligoté, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Domaine A. et P. de Villaine wines

First and foremost, Aligoté produces dry, fruity white wines of great finesse. They are rewarded by the existence of the Bouzeron AOC. For Pinot Noir, the estate tends to use mainly plants from massal selections from Nuit-Saint-Georges. This variety is used to produce AOC red wines such as Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise La Digoine or La Fortune, Mercurey Les Montots or Santenay Premier Cru Passetemps. Finally, Chardonnay produces fruity, mineral white wines such as AOC Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise Les Clous Aîmé and Rully Saint-Jacques, not forgetting Saint-Aubin Premier Cru les Perrières. White wines include Rully Premier Cru Montpalais, Raclot, Rabourcé, Grésigny, Les Margotés and Cloux, while red wines include Rully Premier Cru Cloux and Les Champs Cloux.
