Gautier Thévenet is now at the helm of Domaine de la Bongran, located in Clessé in the Haut-Mâconnais region of Burgundy. A worthy heir to his family's Burgundy winegrowing traditions, he cultivates vines in theViré-Clessé appellation. He produces exclusively Chardonnay white wine. This centuries-old estate continues to produce mellow wines known as "levroutés". Since the 2012 vintage, Gautier's vineyards have been certifiedorganic by Ecocert.

Geographical location of Domaine de la Bongran

Domaine de la Bongran comprises fifteen hectares of vineyards in the communes of Clessé and Viré, a region known as the Land of Quintaine, between Tournus and Mâcon. Although the limestone soils are typical of the region, the Quintaine terroir has its own particularities. White marl, similar to chalk, lies at the foot of the vines. This soil contributes to the finesse and complexity of the wines produced by the estate.

Domaine de la Bongran wines

Gautier Thevenet's white wines are all Chardonnay-based. Viré-Clessé Cuvée EJ Thevenet, Mâcon Village Quintaine Botrytis and Mâcon-Viré Levroutée are just a few examples.

When the conditions are right,Domaine de la Bongran Levroutée produces a rich, round wine with powerful aromas of honey and truffles. This "levroutée" label has been official in Viré-Clessé since 2018, and signifies the presence of residual sugars of between 8 and 18 g/L.

The Domaine de la Bongran Botrytis cuvée offers rare wines made from partially or fully botrytized grapes. The presence of this noble rot characterizes sweet wines. You'll be attracted by their distinctive color. Their aromas are reminiscent of acacia honey and grapefruit.
