Olivier Halley is the current owner of Château de Marsannay, built in Burgundy in 1990. The estate has helped make the Marsannay appellation one of the Côte de Nuits' rising stars. Indeed, it was only in 1987 that Marsannay obtained its AOC status. No application had been made to the INAO in 1936, when the wines were first classified. Marsannay wines were therefore neglected in the second half of the XXᵉ century, in favor of Grands Crus and Premiers Crus. An application to classify certain climats of Château de Marsannay as Premiers Crus is currently under consideration. This would make the estate the largest owner of Premiers Crus in the appellation. Today, the Château is in the hands of the Halley family, where Olivier exploits the property's full potential.

Location of the estate

Château de Marsannay is located in the Côte de Nuits, in Marsannay-la-Côte. The Marsannay appellation is the most northerly of the Côte de Nuits appellations. The Domaine extends over 28 hectares of vines located on the appellation's best Climats; Les Champs Perdrix and Les Longeroies are examples. The vineyard begins in the north, notably with "Montre-Cul", and ends in the south near Clos de Vougeot.

Domaine wines

The Domaine produces many Marsannay red wines, including Marsannay Les Longeroies and Marsannay Les Grandes Vignes. The Domaine operates the vineyards of the Hospices de Beaune in the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune regions. At Château de Marsannay, wines are vinified and matured on a parcel-by-parcel basis. Each terroir is thus respected. The vines are cultivated using integrated farming methods, and the grapes are harvested exclusively by hand.
