Since 2018, Maxime Cottenceau has been managing his Burgundy wine estate alone. Maxime took over his parents' vineyards, located in Buxy, in the heart of Burgundy. He works with respect for the land and the vines. This wine enthusiast practices integrated viticulture. Since 2020, Domaine Maxime Cottenceau has been converting to organic viticulture. The vines are harvested exclusively by hand to avoid damaging the grapes. This young Burgundy estate produces red and white wines that are recognized and sought after by wine lovers.

Geographical location of Domaine Maxime Cottenceau

Domaine Maxime Cottenceau is located on the Côte Châlonnaise in Sâone-et-Loire. The vineyard covers 7.5 hectares in the commune of Buxy, south of Givry. It produces Montagny appellation white wine. The Chardonnay and Aligoté vines are planted on a soil composed of clay and limestone. The vineyard is located on a slope offering excellent exposure to the sun. The temperate climate allows the grapes to ripen before being harvested by hand. Domaine Maxime Cottenceau also has parcels of Pinot Noir in the communes of Givry and Mercurey. In this part of the vineyard, the climate is semi-continental, rather dry and sunny.

Domaine Maxime Cottenceau wines

Maxime Cottenceau produces 75% Burgundy appellation white wines. His white wines are 95% Chardonnay and 5% Aligoté. It produces four Premiers Crus white wines in theMontagny appellation and one Givry. The latter can be kept for around five years to reach maturity and develop their full potential. The winery also produces two red wines in the Givry appellation: Champ Pourot and Mercurey La Chagnée. The latter should be kept for a few years, despite their maturity.
