The Château of Malle was built in the 17th century by Jacques de Malle, once President of the Bordeaux Parliament, who bequeathed his name to the Château. Three generations later, Pierre de Malle's daughter, Jeanne, married Alexandre-Eutrope de Lur-Saluces. The latter bore the title of Count of Uzar and Baron of Fargues. It is in 1855 that the Château had its first success and was elected Grand Cru Classé. The daughter of Henri de Lur-Saluces married Paul de Bournazel, father of Henri Bournazel, better known today under the pseudonym of the "Red Knight". Today, the son of the Red Knight, the Count of Bournazel, is in charge of the property. He has notably launched the rehabilitation of the entire vineyard and that of the Château. He is seen as an important figure in Bordeaux viticulture.

Geographical location of Château de Malle

Spread over an area of more than 50 hectares, the Château of Malle extends over three different communes: Fargues, Preignac and Toulenne. The vines are on average 30 to 40 years old and have an estimated planting density of 6600 vines per hectare. The vineyard is located on a medium altitude plateau, on a clay-gravel soil with a siliceous subsoil. The vines are distributed on both sides of the commune of Toulenne and Preignac. On the one hand, the reds occupy nearly twenty hectares in Toulenne, in Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. On the other hand, the whites occupy 3 hectares shared between Preignac and Toulenne. The vineyard advocates sustainable agriculture. The objective is to ensure the protection of the terroir for a better quality of the production. The harvest is done manually.
