BONNEAU HENRI

Located in Châteauneuf du Pape, Domaine Henri Bonneau is known the world over. Having passed away in 2016, Henri Bonneau represented the 12th generation and had become a legendary figure. He was one of the most respected winemakers in his region and far beyond, crafting wines with a unique personality.

Geographical location of Domaine Henri Bonneau

The estate covers just 6 hectares, and is undoubtedly one of the finest terroirs in the Northern Rhône region. The vines are worked as naturally as possible: no chemicals, just as in the days when there were none. The secret of the wines we produce undoubtedly lies in the fact that the grapes ripen without excess. In other words, the grapes are harvested only when fully ripe. Put into concrete vats, without sulfur or temperature control, the wines are then placed in old Burgundy barrels (over 10 years old). Fermentation is carried out using indigenous yeasts. This process can last over a year. The wines are aged for a long time, averaging 7 years until bottling, but ranging from 4 to 10 years. The result is simply breathtaking: wines of incomparable opulence!

The vineyards are mainly planted with Grenache (75%), with smaller quantities of other grape varieties such as Cinsault (10%), Mourvèdre (10%) and Counoise (5%) on the prestigious Crau plateau. The Domaine produces and offers only red wines. What makes these wines even more unique is that the annual production is 25,000 bottles. The estate's references are therefore relatively hard to find, given the very limited quantities produced.
