Domaine de la Cras is the result of a remarkable project led by Greater Dijon. In November 2013, Grand Dijon purchased 160 hectares of land on the plateau between Dijon, Plombières-lès-Dijon and Corcelles-les-Monts. This area includes meadows, market gardens, pastures and 8 hectares of vines, including 3 hectares of Chardonnay and 5 hectares of Pinot Noir.

Management of the estate is partly entrusted to the Côte-d'Or Chamber of Agriculture. The latter entrusted the operation to Marc Soyard in 2014, a winegrower with a passion for his profession. Ambitious and determined, Marc aims to apply his philosophy to Domaine de la Cras. A philosophy acquired alongside Jean-Yves Bizot at Domaine Bizot in Vosne-Romanée. Hand-harvesting, organic and biodynamic viticulture, low-intervention winemaking - we can relate! He advocates a strict minimum of added sulfur and maturation in new and used barrels for 15 to 18 months. The first vintage was produced in 2014 from a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Marc makes AOC Burgundy wines, including cuvées he calls Coteaux de Dijon. A designation that only Domaine de la Cras can use.

But why did the city of Dijon decide to acquire a vineyard? The objective is simple yet remarkable. Greater Dijon acquired the land to preserve it from urbanization. The project is supported by other organizations such as the Cité Internationale de la Gastronomie, the city of Dijon and the Burgundy Chamber of Agriculture. Protecting local agriculture is the challenge facing Greater Dijon, under Marc Soyard's watchful eye when it comes to vines.

Geographical location of the estate

Domaine de la Cras is located in Plombières-lès-Dijon in the Côte-d'Or region. The vineyard occupies terroirs in the greater Dijon area, as well as in Ladoix-Serrigny and Corgoloin. The vineyard extends as far as the Hautes Côtes-de-Nuits, where the expression of Pinot Noir takes on its full meaning. The vineyard is rooted in a terroir with great potential. The vines are planted at altitude on limestone soil. Some plots are very steep. On the outskirts of Dijon, the vineyard faces due south, with very sunny days. The grapes are bursting with sunshine!

Domaine de la Cras wines

Domaine de la Cras has four cuvées. Two are Coteaux de Dijon reds and whites. The 2019 vintage is sulfur-free. The "Cras" cuvées come from steeper plots with which Marc makes more complex cuvées, also in white and red. The Bourgogne Cras 2018 white is made from 30-year-old vines. This vintage is a little delicacy, offering fine finesse on the palate, with notes of apple and pear. The Bourgogne 2019 is very pure, fruity and light, with a lively, mineral mouthfeel.
