Since 1979, Arnaud De Sèze is the owner of Château Loubens. The latter is located opposite Sauternes. Château Loubens produces a sweet white wine in the Sainte-Croix-du-Mont appellation in Gironde. This vineyard enthusiast works in the respect of the traditions of this very old wine property of Bordeaux. He has been producing exceptional and highly sought-after vintages for centuries. The grapes are harvested only by hand, with a meticulous sorting, when the grapes are ripe. Château Loubens is one of the most emblematic wine properties of Sainte-Croix-du-Mont.
Geographical location of Château Loubens
Chateau Loubens has a very favorable geographical situation to produce a quality white wine. Located in the commune of Loubens, opposite Sauternes, Chateau Loubens is 60 km southeast of Bordeaux. The Sainte-Croix-du-Mont appellation is located on limestone and clay soils. The microclimate from which this wine estate benefits allows it to develop Botrytis. The 20 hectare vineyard is located on hillsides with a southern exposure, on the right bank of the Garonne. Thus, the harvest can be done late thanks to the rarity of frosts. The particularity of Chateau Loubens is that it rests on a soil of marine fossils.
The wine of Château Loubens
Chateau Loubens produces a single sweet wine of the Saint-Croix-du-Mont appellation. This dessert wine is produced with two grape varieties which are Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Château Loubens offers specific aromas and spicy notes that make it a great Bordeaux wine. A vintage of Chateau Loubens can be kept in the cellar for many years before being enjoyed. With its golden color, Chateau Loubens is reminiscent of the white wines of Sauternes.
