Château Lafite Rothschild is an emblematic wine estate in the Bordeaux region. Its Premier Grand Cru Classé is a true benchmark (Bordeaux Wine Classification 1855). Jacques de Ségur was the driving force behind the estate in the 17th century. His grandson, Nicolas-Alexandre, established the prestige and renown of the Grand Vin de l'appellation Pauillac. Château Lafite Rothschild has belonged to the Rothschild family since 1868. Six generations have perpetuated ancestral know-how and tradition to produce a red wine of exceptional quality. Saskia de Rothschild, daughter of Baron Éric de Rothschild, manages Château Lafite and Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite).

Geographical location of Château Lafite Rothschild

The Château Lafite Rothschild vineyard is a vast estate located in the Médoc region. It covers 112 hectares divided into three zones. One parcel of vines is in Pauillac, on the slopes around the château, a second parcel is further west, on the Carruades plateau, and 4.5 hectares are in Saint-Estèphe. The Premier Vin vines are on average 45 years old. They are planted on a soil of deep fine gravel mixed with wind-blown sand. The subsoil is limestone, dating from the Tertiary era. The vineyards enjoy naturally well-exposed, well-drained soils.

Wines of Château Lafite Rothschild

This Premier Grand Cru Classé in the Pauillac appellation embodies refinement, prestige and excellence. Château Lafite Rothschild is a red wine for laying down. A vintage easily ages 15 to 30 years. At its peak, it reveals all its splendor and delicate bouquet with notes of cedar, spices and graphite. The grape varieties are 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Depending on the vintage, Cabernet Sauvignon can account for up to 90% of the blend. Robert Parker has awarded a 100/100 rating to several of its vintages. The estate also produces a second red wine, Les Carruades de Lafite.
