Maison Roche de Bellene takes its name from the town of Beaune, named "Bellene" until the Middle Ages. The house has its roots in the work of Françoise and Gérard Potel. They settled in Volnay, Burgundy, in 1964. Their passion for wine led them to produce Premiers Crus of Burgundy wines, notably Pinot Noir. Their son, Nicolas Potel, trained with some of the world's greatest winemakers. He developed organic farming on the family estate. In 1997, he set up his own trading house in Nuits-Saint-Georges. In the 2000s, the Nicolas Potel trading house was sold to Maison Roche de Bellene.
