Château Cantemerle belonged to the Villeneuve family for many years. At that time, Madame Caroline de Villeneuve, who was at the head of the estate, fought to have the estate's name included in the famous 1855 official Classification des Vins de Bordeaux and thus preserve the château's reputation; Cantemerle was thus added to the Cinquièmes Crus. This was the first classification change in history. Later, the estate was acquired by the French group SMA, a mutual insurance company for construction and public works companies. This was one of the first companies to invest in a Bordeaux vineyard. It enlarged the property by purchasing vines, and carried out in-depth soil analyses, enabling us to offer today high-quality planting material, managed by an HVE* approach. Today, the estate is in full expansion, and has many innovative ideas in mind! Work to triple the size of the winery, with increasingly high-performance technical equipment. Renovation work on the Château, with the creation of a reception area, bedrooms and a kitchen... In short, a spectacular place to visit as a matter of urgency!

Location of Château Cantemerle

Situated in the Médoc, the estate extends over a vast 96-hectare vineyard. The vines grow on silica-gravel soil, the result of ancient erosion of the Pyrenees by the Garonne River. This unique terroir produces delicate, well-balanced wines of rare aromatic complexity.

Château Cantemerle wines

Château Cantemerle is the Château's first wine. This cuvée is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (68%), Merlot (23%) and a little Cabernet Franc (5%) and Petit Verdot (4%). This is a wine with a complex, persistent aromatic bouquet. Its full-bodied mouthfeel and velvety tannins mean that it can be enjoyed both young and after several decades.

Les Allées de Cantemerle is the Château's second wine. Mainly made from young Cabernet Sauvignon vines, it's a gourmet wine with plenty of freshness, inviting sharing and conviviality from its very first years. Powerful yet balanced, well-flavored, it displays seductive aromatic potential that lends itself wonderfully to ageing.
