Château Palmer produces one of Bordeaux 's greatest growths, in theMargaux appellation. Since 1855, the red wine of this third Cru Classé has been synonymous with prestige, elegance and delicacy. Château Palmer's vineyards have produced many exceptional vintages. In 1814, the château became the property of the English Lieutenant-Colonel, Charles Palmer. In 1853, the Pereire brothers built an emblematic neo-Renaissance château. Since 1938, four families of Bordeaux merchants have contributed to the excellence and international renown of Château Palmer. Today, the estate is owned by the heirs of the Mähler-Besse and Sichel families. Thomas Duroux has been at the helm of the château since 2004.

Location of Château Palmer

Château Palmer is located in Cantenac, in the Bordeaux region. The château's vineyards extend over 66 hectares in the Médoc. It lies on a plateau of Quaternary sand and various gravels (quartzite, chalcedony). Nestled between the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic Ocean, the vineyards benefit from soils enriched by deposits left by the Garonne River. The drained soils help to regulate the vines' water supply. Since 2014, the vineyard has been farmed biodynamically. This sustainable management of the Palmer vineyard preserves the quality of the vines and the terroir of the château.

Château Palmer wines

Château Palmer produces mainly red wines with a delicate, velvety style. Moderate and subtle, the vintages are balanced and harmonious. Château Palmer is the first wine and Alter Ego the second. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot make up an equal part of the blend, with a pinch of Petit Verdot. These grape varieties are vinified separately, allowing them to reveal their full aromatic richness and flavor with each vintage. A few bottles of Château Palmer Blanc have been produced since 2010. The white wine is made from Lauzet, Muscadelle and Sauvignon Gris grapes.
