Château d'Arche is located south of Bordeaux, in the Sauternes region. The château is classified as an AOC Sauternes Second Grand Cru. In 1733, the Comtes d'Arche bought the property and changed the name to Château d'Arche. Today, Didier Galhaud runs this Bordeaux château. The Sauternes vines are harvested by hand. The 40-hectare vineyard is certified ISO 14001 and High Environmental Value. Part of the Château d'Arche vineyard is ploughed by horse to respect the terroir.

Location of Château d'Arche

Château d'Arche is located in the village of Sauternes. This vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir thanks to its location near the Garonne and Ciron rivers. The microclimate of this region of Bordeaux enables the vines to develop Botrytis cinerea. Without this noble rot, there would be no Sauternes wines. The vines are planted on the slopes of the hill between Sauternes and Haut-Bommes. The soil is very rich and diversified, with gravel, clay and silt.

Château d'Arche wines

Château d'Arche produces seven AOC Sauternes wines. The Grand Cru Classé Château d'Arche is made from Sémillon and Sauvignon grapes. Château d'Arche produces three Sauternes white wines: Arche Lafaurie, Perle d'Arche and Château Padouën. "A" de Château d'Arche is a dry white wine with citrus and floral aromas. The estate also produces a rosé wine, composed of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. To complete the range, a Crémant de Bordeaux, l'Arche Perlée, is also available. This sparkling wine is made from Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes, specially planted to produce it.
