CHÂTEAU COUTET

Located in Barsac, Gironde, Château Coutet is a vineyard classified Premier Grand Cru des vins de Bordeaux in 1855. Created between the late 13th and early 19th centuries, it is one of the oldest wine estates in Sauternes. The estate really began its ascent under the direction of ex-president of the Bordeaux Parliament Gabriel-Barthélémy-Romain de Filhot, who acquired the estate in 1788. Following his death in 1794, the Marquis Romain-Bertrand de Lur Saluces, his grandson, took over. He propelled the Château into the upper echelons of the oligarchy. The vineyard then passed into the hands of Louis Guy following a buyout in 1922. He sold the vineyard again to Marcel Baly in 1977, who ran Château Coutet with his two sons, Philippe and Dominique, who are the current owners.
