Flacons confidentiels - Domaine Mathilde & Yves Gangloff

Yves Gangloff entered the world of wine almost by chance, but above all thanks to a wonderful encounter. Originally from Alsace, he discovered the Rhône Valley for the first time in 1978, when his brother, a painter, rented a studio in the Château d'Ampuis, long before the Guigal family bought it. Yves initially came for a one-week visit, but fell under Mathilde's spell, which convinced him to stay in the region for good.

With no real professional background, but with a free spirit, a Jack Kerouac book in his pocket and a guitar in his hand, Yves worked at a number of modest jobs before joining the Delas company as a farm labourer. For seven years, he learned the subtleties of working with vines and wine, a period he describes as particularly enriching. It was also a period of renaissance for the Côte Rôtie appellation, rediscovered and revitalised by a new generation of passionate winemakers, ready to restore the prestige of a terroir long neglected by previous generations.
