HOSPICES DE BEAUNE

A famous establishment if ever there was one, the Hospices de Beaune in Burgundy has the unique distinction of fulfilling a triple purpose: medical, tourism and viticulture. This originality is explained by the site's history. In the 15th century, the founders built a hospital, the Hôtel-Dieu, in the traditional Burgundian architectural style. A vineyard was also added, producing wines that are now known the world over. No longer used as a hospital, the building has been converted into a museum and is now a major tourist attraction.

The wines produced by this prestigious estate are sold every year at the Hospices de Beaune auction, an internationally renowned charity event.
