DAGUENEAU LOUIS-BENJAMIN

Located in Saint-Andelain, in the Pouilly-Fumé appellation, Domaine Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau continues the legacy of a visionary man: Didier Dagueneau, a legendary figure in Sauvignon blanc. Since 2008, his son Louis-Benjamin has taken over the reins of the estate with a rare rigor, pursuing his father's ambition: to make Pouilly-Fumé the equal of the world's greatest white wines.

The estate owes its reputation to the outstanding work of Didier Dagueneau. A forerunner in biodynamic viticulture, rigorous yield management and precision winemaking, he took his cuvées to the top of the Loire and beyond.

When he passed away, his son Louis-Benjamin, then in his early thirties, took over. In just a few vintages, he confirmed not only his legitimacy, but above all his ability to reinvent excellence while respecting the estate's DNA. Today, he is recognized as one of the greatest white winemakers of his generation.

The vineyard stretches over 12 hectares, exclusively planted with Sauvignon Blanc, on the best terroirs of Pouilly-Fumé. The soils, mostly clay-limestone, flint or Kimmeridgian marl, are worked with the greatest respect for microbial life:

  • No synthetic chemicals,
  • Hand ploughing,
  • Harvested exclusively by hand,
  • Rigorous berry sorting.

The approach is biodynamic, even if not claimed, with a constant search for purity and transparency of place.

Domaine Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau wines are exclusively white and made from the Sauvignon Blanc grape variety, but are unlike any other. They are distinguished by their natural concentration, mineral energy and exceptional ageing potential.

Emblematic cuvées include:

  • Silex, the estate's most famous, from a volcanic terroir that gives it tension, brilliance and mineral length,
  • Pur Sang, more airy and floral, with a racy style,
  • Buisson Renard, saline and textured,
  • Blanc Fumé de Pouilly, the signature cuvée of crystalline purity,
  • And in extremely limited quantities, Le Jardin de Babylone, a sweet Petit Manseng produced in Jurançon.

In the cellar, fermentations are carried out with indigenous yeasts, and long maturation takes place in bespoke oak barrels, often produced by the estate itself. Wood is present but never dominant. Bottling is carried out without fining or filtration, and with minimal sulfur.

Each cuvée is the fruit of meticulous attention to detail, designed to allow the terroir to express itself with clarity and complexity. This level of rigor, from the vine to the bottle, places the domaine on a par with the world's greatest whites, whatever the region.

Today,Domaine Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau embodies the pinnacle of what Sauvignon Blanc can offer in the Loire region: deep, vibrant, age-worthy wines that transcend their appellation. A must for lovers of exceptional white wines, rare, precise and driven by a unique vision of the winemaker's craft.
