CHÂTEAU CALON-SÉGUR

In the Bordeaux wine region, Château Calon-Ségur's winegrowing history began in the 12th century with Marquis Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur, President of the Bordeaux Parliament. Nicknamed "Prince of Vines" by Louis XV, he said of this Saint-Estèphe vineyard: "I make wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is at Calon". The heart affixed to Château Calon-Ségur bottles bears witness to this. Ranked third in the 1855 Médoc wine classification, Château Calon-Ségur passed into the hands of the Capbern-Gasqueton family in 1894. Owners of the famous Château Capbern-Gasqueton vines, the family ran the château for over a century. In 2012, Château Calon-Ségur was acquired by the Suravenir insurance group.
