Château Potensac has belonged to the Delon family for several centuries. The current owner, Jean-Hubert Delon, inherited Château Potensac from his father Michel Delon. Jean-Hubert Delon owns several estates, including Château Léoville las Cases, Saint-Julien's second Grand Cru. He produces a Bordeaux red wine that is the only Cru Bourgeois in the Médoc. The vines are grown without pesticides or herbicides and harvested by hand. Château Potensac is considered one of the finest Médoc appellation wines.

Location of Château de Potensac

Château Potensac is located in the northern Médoc, in Ordonnac, Gironde. These Médoc vineyards cover 84 hectares. The vineyard is close to the Garonne River. However, the Pontensac estate is situated on top of a hill, on a limestone subsoil. The soil is composed of clay-gravel hilltops. Château Potensac benefits froma very favorable geographical situation in the Bordeaux region. There are five different grape varieties on the estate, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc vines over 80 years old.

Château Potensac wines

Château Potensac produces two AOC Médoc red wines. Château Potensac is a Cru Bourgeois with a tight texture, dense tannins and spicy notes. This Médoc Cru Bourgeois reaches its peak after several years in the cellar. The second wine from the Potensac estate is called La Chapelle de Potensac. The first bottles of La Chapelle de Pontensac were sold in 2002. It's a well-balanced young wine, with a lovely freshness, that can be enjoyed straight away. This second wine is composed of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.
