Since 1998, Sylvie Esmonin has run the eponymous domaine in Gevrey-Chambertin, in the heart of Burgundy's Côte de Nuits region. She took over from her father and is one of the few women to head a Burgundy wine estate. An agricultural engineer, she worked as an oenologist before returning to the family cradle with her father, Michel Esmonin, in the 1990s. Sylvie Esmonin has worked hard to raise the profile of the estate, which is entirely organic. In particular, her Clos Saint-Jacques Premier Cru, so famous in Gevrey-Chambertin, has contributed to this success.

Geographical location of Domaine Sylvie Esmonin

Domaine Sylvie Esmonin comprises almost eight hectares of vines in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin, a prestigious Côte de Nuits terroir if ever there was one. The plots are planted with Pinot Noir or Chardonnay grapes. The vines are tended with respect for the terroir, using copper and plant-based treatments. The grapes are harvested by hand and vinified in whole bunches. Wines are aged in oak barrels for a year and a half for red wines, and between 12 and 14 months for white wines. Domaine Sylvie Esmonaut produces wines that are complex and delicate on the palate.

Domaine Sylvie Esmonin wines

Domaine Sylvie Esmonin produces a prestigious and complex red Burgundy wine, Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Clos Saint-Jacques. The Volnay Premier Cru Santenots Rouge comes from the estate's oldest vines. There's also Gevrey-Chambertin Vielles Vignes, and Gevrey-Chambertin, made from old vines. Côte de Nuits Villages Rouge and Bourgogne Rouge round out Domaine Sylvie Esmonin's red wine production. For white wines, you can choose between Bourgogne Blanc made from Chardonnay and Bourgogne Aligoté, with its fruity or floral aromas.
